Eutrophication means the oversaturation of an ecosystem with non-organic nutrients such as nitrogen and phosphorus compounds.
For marine ecosystems, aquatic eutrophication through the entry of nitrogen (N) compounds via air and water is decisive.
The eutrophication potential due to nutrient components getting into the salt water (EP salt water) is calculated according to the EUTREND model (as implemented in ReCiPe).
For the calculation the EK-JRC characterization factors shall be used: http://eplca.jrc.ec.europa.eu/LCDN/developerEF.xhtml
