Products made from organohalogen compounds should be avoided due to numerous ecological disadvantages during the production cycle as well as for disposal and recycling. A position paper by the City of Vienna on this issue (particularly regarding PVC) is available at http://www.oekokauf.wien.at (in German).
The maximum admissible content of organohalogen compounds in plastic building materials and building chemicals*) is 3% by weight.
*) except coatings, for which separate criteria have been laid down.
For windows and doors, the requirement also applies to seals. Excluded are small parts such as glazing blocks or clips for aluminum frames.
